Best of Beauty | 2015
I cannot believe that 2015 is over. So many incredible changes happened last year and I honestly could not be more excited for what 2016 holds. 2015 was also the year that I really streamlined my makeup routine, I was not nearly as experimental with my daily makeup as I have been in previous years, but I was really able to pinpoint a good selection of products that I loved and used consistently throughout the year. A few of these products have yet to be featured on the blog, partially because I have been a bad blogger the past few months *slaps wrist*, but also because I didn't want to talk too much about certain products because then this post would be really boring to read.
If there's one part of my makeup routine that I have perfected this year it would have to be the base. I finally bought into all of the hype over the Laura Mercier Primer and absolutely fell in love. I went for the hydrating formula although I have combination skin, but I have found that this makes my foundation apply like an absolute dream, last for ages while still looking fresh and dewy, all while managing to keep the oiliness under control. Miracle product I think yes. As for foundation not much has changed in that category seeing as my most-worn go-to foundation is still the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation. I love that this foundation feels weightless on the skin whilst giving a nice bit of coverage to even out my skin. The Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer was definitely a later entry into this year's favorites, however it has without a doubt blown all of my other concealers out of the water. The coverage is incredible but the formula is very creamy and blendible. While the color selection is a bit odd and limited, I was able to find that Light Warm works perfectly for both under my eyes as well as over any blemishes. I love blending in this concealer with the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge because it gives such a natural finish.
As for brow products my old standby the Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil has been my go-to for most days because even though it is a pencil it somehow manages to make my brows look really natural and not at all drawn on. I fell back in love with this product because Hourglass released more shades in this product (it used to only be available in 3 shades but is now available in 9) and while I did find my original shade Blonde to work, the new Platinum Blonde is just that much more perfect as it runs slightly ashier. On lazy days I love using the Maybelline Brow Drama, which is a tinted brow gel with a good amount of pigment and hold. The brush on this one is a bit funky and can be kind of hard to use if your brows are on the thinner side, but if you have relatively thick brows and are looking for something to tint them and keep them in place, this is your guy.
My favorite blush for this year has been the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Dim Infusion, which is a gorgeous light peach shade with beautiful champagne veining. Not only is the color a perfect everyday shade but the formula is to die for. I also love this product because of the fact that you don't need to use a separate highlighter since it is already built into the blush itself. I still don't understand how these blushes manage to look so glowy on the cheeks without any visible shimmer.
2015 was the year of very basic eye makeup for me. Most days I just went for a sweep of cream eyeshadow and a healthy dose of mascara. My most-used eyeshadow this year was the Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in R.S.V.P, a shimmery pinky-champagne shade. I love how brightening this eyeshadow as well as the fact that it is incredibly long-wearing on its own, no primer necessary. My mascara of choice throughout the year has been the Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara. Although I wrote a post all about how much I love the Clinique High Impact Mascara, the Covergirl offering won out in the end because I have used it more consistently throughout the year and it also does not dry out nearly as quickly as the Clinique mascara did.
The NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned was without a doubt my favorite lip shade this year. I love the formula of these pencils because of how comfortable yet matte they are. The shade Damned is also just the best dark berry shade I have come across.
And last but definitely not least is Essie Solemate, which is the nail polish I used for probably two-thirds of 2015. It is without a doubt the best deep black cherry nail polish that will go with any outfit, and somehow manages to be appropriate during the warmer months.
