My Nighttime Skin Care Routine
I don't know why it has taken me so long to get around to writing this post but today I'm (finally) going to share my evening skin care routine with you all. My nighttime skincare routine includes far more steps than my morning routine, however it really doesn't take much time at all (max 10 minutes depending on how much I putz around). Some things change around and I often switch up moisturizers based on how my skin is looking and feeling but all-in-all this routine is generally what I stick to and the steps are pretty constant.
My first step is cleansing, now I'm part of the double-cleansing camp, which means that I do my first cleanse with the Bioderma Crealine H2O, which I use solely to remove my makeup. I then cleanse my skin with the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, which I 100% recommend. I know some of you might be a bit hesitant about using a balmy/oily cleanser if you have oily/acne prone skin, but it's just as important when you have that skin type to not strip the skin with a harsh/drying cleanser because that will only create a breeding ground for acne and will make your skin more oily. If you have any further inquiries about the nitty-gritty of cleansing you should definitely check out the Queen of Skincare aka Caroline Hiron's cheat sheet all about cleansing here.
The second step in my routine is to use a spot treatment on any breakouts and for that I use the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo, which is a benzoyl peroxide treatment that helps to clear any spots. For about four years I used Epiduo, which is a prescription spot treatment, but I have found that these two treatments work very similarly seeing as the have nearly identical ingredients.
Now comes the heftiest (and my favorite) of steps and that is moisturizing. Even though I have oily skin I am in no way against or afraid of injecting some serious moisture into my skin, because I have found that when my skin is dehydrated I break out more and actually am more oily during the daytime. First off I use the Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado as my eye cream, which is a really thick moisturizing eye cream. It doesn't claim to do anything in the way of fine lines and wrinkles but for me, as I'm only 20, the only thing I'm really looking for in an eye cream is moisture. I then go in with a face oil and the one I'm currently using and loving is the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate, which not only does amazing things to my skin, but also smells incredible and is very soothing before bedtime. I wait a minute or two for the oil to sink in and then I go in with a classic moisturizer, which is the product I rotate quite often, but I normally go for the Origins High-Potency Night-A-Mins, which is great for making the skin feel hydrated as well as looking brighter and more radiant in the morning (I mean come on who doesn't want that?!).
