How To Unwind When Life Gets Crazy
Being a full-time college student at a rigorous university, I am no stranger to stress. Especially when you are on the quarter system and seem to have exams and essays every other week, it can be really hard to find time to just chill out. I have found the best way to de-stress is to have a night to myself where I can be completely by myself and do the frivolous things I don't have time to do during the week. I've learned over the past year and a half that the best way to calm myself down and relax is to have a night to myself where I can do a bit of a pamper routine, read my book, and go to bed early (I know, I really am a granny at heart).
Get Your Environment Just Right ~ I always start out any relaxation-type night by making sure that my room is clean and my bed is made. To me this helps to calm down because I'm the kind of person that if I see clutter and general messiness, I will feel a little stressed. I also end up spending the majority of the time in bed during one of these nights (obvs) so of course I want my bed to be looking and feeling as nice as it possibly can.
Read A Book ~ As much as I love a good Netflix marathon, I find it more relaxing when I'm stressed to keep the technology usage to a minimum. Normally I will turn off my computer and phone so I won't be tempted and instead reach for the book I'm reading, at the moment that is Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham, or a magazine, my favorites being Elle or Allure. I also find that when I read before bed I fall asleep much faster and I generally just sleep better, and if you're a college student like me, you'll know how important every hour of sleep is.
Pamper Yourself ~ Last or sometimes before I start reading my book I love to do a bit of a pamper routine. I start out doing my normal evening skincare routine and then I usually do some sort of a face mask, the mask I use varies on what my skin is looking/feeling like at the moment, however if my skin is really feeling the effects of a lot of stress I always reach for the First Aid Beauty Oatmeal Mask because not only is it really calming for the skin but it's super gentle. I also like to use a few spritzes of the Caudalie Beauty Elixir because I find the herbal/minty scent really relaxing. As a last step in the pamper routine I will paint my nails, my favorite nail polish shade being Essie Bahama Mama, and then use some of the Aesop Resurrection Hand Cream because it's super hydrating and again, it smells amazing.
