The Autumn Edit
I've held off on writing this post for awhile simply because here in California autumn hasn't really come quite yet. With the exception of a few slightly chilly days and the odd foggy morning, the weather has been annoyingly summer-like. No don't get me wrong, summer has its merits but autumn, to me, is the ultimate season, with all the amazing food, wearing sweaters and boots, and the turning leaves. Because it has been so damn hot here I've felt a bit weird pulling out all my best autumnal beauty bits, but now that it's finally starting to cool off I don't think I can resist wearing a berry lip or a warm smokey eye any longer.
In the autumn I feel like I can wear a foundation with a bit more coverage, but I still want something that feels light on the skin and gives a good amount of glow and the foundation that ticks off all those boxes is the L'Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation. I find this foundation is best applied with fingers but if you want more coverage you can use a brush.
There's nothing more I love more than dark nail polish, in fact I get kind of depressed come spring and summer because wearing practically black nail polish looks a bit weird in the warmer months. During the fall and winter though I can fully embrace my love of deep polishes and my favorites of the moment are Essie Merino Cool and Rimmel Red Award. Merino Cool is best described as a medium greyish purple, which sounds really unappealing but is actually incredibly flattering on the nails, and I like that it is something a bit different than your average red or black polish. Red Award is a gorgeous rich black cherry, which is easily one of my favorite colors to wear on my nails. The formula and the brush, along with the color, make this polish a real winner.
In terms of makeup colors during the cooler months, there is nothing better than warm browns, rich coppers, and berry shades. For the eyes, I love wearing a wash of a red toned brown because I think its really festive and it also brings out my pale eyes. My favorite red-toned brown eyeshadow of the moment is the L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Bottomless Java. And of course a fall makeup look wouldn't be complete without a berry lip and for that I either reach for the Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in 107 or MAC Rebel, which can both be applied more as a stain for a sheer wash of color, or full on for a really bold berry lip. The Rimmel lipstick is much more red-toned, while Rebel is much more purple, but both are equally gorgeous. And last but finally not least is blush. Because I like to wear either a statement lip or a smokey eye (or sometimes both if I'm feeling really daring) I like to keep things pretty natural on the cheeks and for that I always go for the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed, which is the perfect brownish pink, that pairs well with any lip or any eye look.
What are your favorite makeup bits for autumn?
