A Makeup Guide for Gingers: Lips

For the final installment of the Makeup Guide for Gingers I am going to talk about the most flattering lip products for redheads!

MAC Crosswires lipstick

If you have ever seen Mad Men and pay attention to the kind of lipstick that Joan Holloway (Christina Hendrick's character) wears then you will know what I mean when I say that this is the quintessential Joan color. This lipstick is a great pick for all of you gingers who like bright lipsticks; it is a nice blend of a coral, a red, and a pink, all without looking garish or neon.

Benefit Benetint

I know that I have mentioned Benefit's Benetint a lot on this blog but it honestly is one of my favorite lip products on gingers. This deep rose stain creates a beautiful just-bitten look, that I think looks absolutely gorgeous on fair complexions.

NARS Matte Velvet Lip Pencil in Cruella

I think the most common misconception when it comes to makeup-wearing rules for redheads is that redheads cannot wear red lipstick. I think that this rule is absolutely ridiculous, look up a picture of Julianne Moore wearing red lipstick and try to tell me I'm wrong when I say that red lipstick looks amazing on gingers. If you are going to go for a bold red lip, then look no further than the NARS Matte Velvet Lip Pencil in Cruella, a beautiful deep blue-based red. Blue-based reds, rather than orange-based reds, tend to look best on fair complexions and they make your teeth look incredibly white!

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Rose Shimmer

If you are more of a lipgloss girl, I would, without hesitation, recommend the Clarins ILNLP in Rose Shimmer. Some light pink glosses look a bit too milky and can wash out light skin even more, but I find that this lip gloss does not do that at all. It adds a bit more of a pink tone to my lips, yet still looks extremely natural.

MAC Brave Lipstick

Speaking of pink lips, I have always found that light pink lipsticks are incredibly difficult to wear having red hair and fair skin. I think that they wash me out and make my already pigmented lips look dead and a bit ashy. That all changed when I found MAC Brave lipstick; the reason why this lipstick works with my skin and hair color is the fact that doesn't have too much blue in it and it isn't too light. I would be hard pressed to find another everyday pink lipstick that rivals this one.

What are your favorite lip products to wear that suit your hair/skin color?

xx Hannah
